It’s a no surprise that I’m a huge book reader and lover, and I was watching some of Siena Mirabella’s old YouTube videos and had stumbled across her HOW I READ video, which is basically a book/reading habits tag and I wanted to do my own as I do enjoy reading too and thought it’d be quiet interesting to write.
1. Do you have a certain place at home for reading?
Majority of the time, I read on my bed, with a blanket on me all cosied up with a candle lit, or sitting on my desk chair with my legs stretched out onto my bed with a cup of something (tea, coffee, hot choc). If not my bedroom, then I like to read in the living room only if the living room is empty and free of noise, on the sofa, again with a cuppa beside me.
2. Bookmark or random piece of paper?
I’m 100% a bookmark kinda gal!! I have so much all in various shapes, sizes and types. I actually have started collecting bookmarks from the places I have travelled to lately a bit like a souvenir, as I’m just obsessed with them. To be honest, it’d bug me to use a random piece of paper instead of an actual bookmark. Sometimes I use Polaroids as a bookmark as well, as they make great one.
3. Can you just stop reading or do you have to stop after a chapter / a certain amount of pages?
I definitely don’t stop reading after certain amount of pages, I’m usually the type of person to stop when the chapter finishes if I need to do something or go somewhere. However lately I’ve been guilty of just stopping randomly if it’s a really long chapter and has bored me or if I reallyyy need to do something else urgently.
4. Do you eat or drink while reading?
I definitely can’t eat while I’m reading as I get distracted really quickly and don’t understand what I have read. But I definitely drink something all the time when reading, whether it’s a cup of tea, coffee, hot chocolate or an iced latte! I’m deffo the type of person to have a book in one hand and a cuppa in the other.
5. Multitasking: Music or TV while reading?
Ages ago I would have said zero noise and silence to this, but lately I’ve been reading with a tiny bit of classical/slow tunes in the background. I definitely cannot read whilst the TV is on, as I’d just get distracted straight away, but I’d either listen to some classical music or utter silence depending on my mood that day.
6. One book at a time or several at once?
I can only read one book at once 100% as it’d annoy me so much starting another book when the other one is half read. However at the moment, I am reading two which is a bit controversial of what I just said, but one is for my uni assignment and the other is ‘The Pearl’ by John Steinbeck which is my pleasure read book. I’ve only just started reading The Pearl and only couple pages in, by the way I’m reading it in Turkish as I had brought in Turkey and I had to start the other book for my uni assignment so couldn’t read much of it, which clearly shows that I can’t read 2 books at the same time.
7. Reading at home or everywhere?
I basically read everywhere, on the tube, on holiday, home, plane, car journeys, literally anywhere that I get a chance to. I really enjoy reading in busy places as weird as that sounds, as I mentioned that I like silence when reading above, but there’s just something calming about getting stuck in a book within a busy place like a tube.
8. Reading out loud or silently in your head?
I always start reading my book silently in my head as I found that, that’s how I concentrate on the plot, but as I get into the book I start reading out loud which is weird to be honest. But I generally read silently in my head and I recreate the scene I’m reading within my imagination.
9. Breaking the spine or keeping it like new?
I don’t really try to intend to keep the book new, as it’s just impossible for me, there is always going to be some sort of pages folded up and tea/coffee stains somewhere. I do break the spine though as I fold the book when I’m reading a really interesting/gripping part. If it’s a hardback which I obvs don’t fold, but I don’t break the spine of those.
10. Do you write in your books?
No, never have and never will to be honest.
That’s it for the tag questions, and I hope you enjoyed reading this post. I tag any book lover to do this tag!
Ayse Merve! x
